I've been busy photographing Char's flowers. The hardest part is getting her to title these flowers for me. I can barely tell a rose from a lily. There are also some photos of our lawn taken from the roof and the second floor window. Most of the flowers are photographed with a Vivitar 135mm F2.8 m42 mount lens with an adapter. I bought it on ebay for $16. At the other extreme I'm using a new Sigma 10-20mm ultrawide zoom.

2009.07.07 Aluminum Overcast B-17G

"Aluminum Overcast" a WWII era B-17G flew into Fargo on Monday July 6th and stayed until July 8th. Bob Nelson and I renewed our memberships to the Fargo Air Museum and toured the Bomber on Tuesday (I let Sean Dobbins tag along.) I went back on Wednesday as the sun was out.

2009.08.18 Miss Mitchell B-25

Bob Nelson and I went out to the Fargo Air Museum to view the B-25G "Miss Mitchell", this is the same air craft his father, Doug Nelson, flew in WWII. After lunch we watched as they got the Mitchell ready for a media flight. I left after take off. I returned around 8:00 PM. Bob's truck was in the parking lot. I didn't see him anywhere until I noticed he was in the cockpit. The photos of me are taken by Bob Nelson copyright 2009.

2009 Chankinkapa Zoo

The Dobbins invited me along to the Wahpeton Zoo. I like this zoo. It is easy to get around and has a nice selection of animals to photograph. I wish I didn't have to shoot through so much chain link but I also don't want to be chased by a Bengal Tiger. The use of my Sony 70-300mm lens helped minimize the fence. I also shot with my Sigma 10-20mm lens. Two extremes. Clare enjoyed the zoo, except for the aggressive duck and loud peacock. Suzanne found some wild raspberries and fed the kids. After 90 minutes, it started to rain. It was time to leave; I was left wanting more.

2009.08.20 Blue Angel Practice

I was going to join Bob Nelson to photograph the Blue Angels as they practiced over NDSU. Hopefully Sean would join me. Ray needed the van for his Radiation treatment. Suzanne delivered Sean after he called. Clare was taken by my pose. I was on the roof photographing the Solo Pilots. Sean joined me. Bob would call on the cell phone. When Ray returned, Sean begged me to go to NDSU. The planes were still up, I didn't want to go. I expected the rain would start and the practice would be over before we got there. I gave in. When we arrived the sun came out and the Blue Angels returned to the sky along with other planes for the Fargo Air Sho.

2009.08.21 Blue Angel Practice

My second cousin, Jeff Maas, and his kids join Sean and I at NDSU to watch the Blue Angels practice. It was cloudier today than yesterday. It didn't rain but it was cool. We got to see the F-15E and F-4 Heritage Flight.
We stayed in the van during the Warbirds and Aerobatic practices. Sean complained he was hungry (right after lunch) but brought a box of Cheese-its. The boys played iPods and video games while Jeff and I caught up. Bob Nelson called. He was working the soccer game at the NDSU Track and Field nearby. We joined him in the west bleachers when the Blue Angels went up.

2009.08.22 Fargo Air Sho

The first day of the 2009 Fargo Air Sho. The weather was very good and the aerial demonstrations were excellent. I was joined by my nephew Sean, my second cousin Jeff Maas and his kids: Jarrod and Ethan. We arrived at noon after navigating some traffic. My friend Bob Nelson was already at the show fence when we joined him. I mostly used my Sony 75-300mm Lens. I also tried out the Soligor 500mm CAT and Sigma 10-20mm Lenses. Bob stayed after the Blue Angels but I left as the boys were getting restless. Traffic was bad getting out, but I navigated around the worst of it.

2009.08.23 Fargo Air Sho

Sunday, the final day of the 2009 Fargo Airsho. I went by myself and tried to concentrate more on the photography. I got a good collection of photos. I arrived early to photograph the static aircraft displays. Some photos I thought would look good in Black & White so I converted them in Adobe Camera RAW and/or Adobe Photoshop. The Blue Angels did most of their show, but the lead aircraft developed mechanical troubles; so the show was cut short. I have show notes on my blog. I shot almost 500 photos today. I've post the best photos (218). I also have photos from yesterday, the practices on Thursday, Friday, and the B-25 on Tuesday in other galleries on this site.

2009 Western MN Steam Threshers Reunion

Gene Maas and I returned to Rollag this year for the WMSTR. Bob Nelson expressed interest in photographing the event, so we took him along. I picked Sunday, when the show is open later and waved off coming early. We got there around 10 AM. We spent a lot of time at the Working Horse Power Demonstration. Char and Norma Maas arrived around noon. We joined them for lunch. Then we caught the 2:00 PM tractor parade. Rest of the afternoon was spend looking at tractors, combines, and looking for Bob. Cell phones are great except when they don't work.

2009 NDSU vs UNI

I attend the Bison football game with my father and nephew. My sister has season tickets in row B end zone. She couldn't attend and offered me a free game if I took Sean. My best friend Bob Nelson shots for NDSU sport information so he's usually on the side lines. The NDSU Bison were playing the University of Northern Iowa rated #4 in the nation. Although the Bison were not likely to win, they did stay competitive during the entire game. These photos are just me goofing around with my camera at the game- so don't take them too seriously. 2009.10.06 Fargo Air Museum

Taco Bell is closed downtown, the alternative on 19th is across from the Fargo Air Museum. Bob brought his camera too so we both decided to visit after lunch. I was currious about the overcase sky (light) through the big south window. When the sun pops out the light is much better. The air museum seems a little empty without the Stearman and Duggy the DC-3, but it also seems brighter and easier shooting.
